Maiocco Structural Engineering performed the structural engineering services for this renovation. The building is located at a major intersection near Central Square. The owner was intent on preserving its rental value by maximizing open space on the first floor. This was a challenge considering the long, narrow shape of the layout and the need for seismic bracing.

A specially configured steel bracing system was positioned next to the central elevator to serve this purpose. The bracing system and its substantial anchorage to the side walls allowed for adequate stability with only one unobtrusive first floor seismic brace.
